Partners Group, a global private markets investment manager, has partnered with Climeworks, a leader in direct air capture (DAC) technology, to remove over 7,000 metric tons of CO₂ from the atmosphere. This 13-year agreement signifies Partners Group’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2030.
The collaboration with Climeworks marks a crucial step in Partners Group’s comprehensive decarbonization program. Announced in 2022, the program aims to minimize the firm’s environmental footprint through emissions reduction and the implementation of innovative carbon removal solutions. This agreement represents Partners Group’s first foray into technology-based carbon removal, complementing their existing investments in nature-based solutions like reforestation projects, which also benefit biodiversity.
Partners Group’s commitment extends beyond this agreement, as they co-led a significant CHF 600 million fundraising round for Climeworks in 2022. The firm actively collaborates with Climeworks’ management and fellow investors to address the scalability challenges inherent in the burgeoning carbon removal industry. This hands-on approach underscores Partners Group’s dedication to fostering sustainable growth within their portfolio companies.
David Layton, Partner and Chief Executive Officer of Partners Group, emphasizes the firm’s dedication to sustainability and long-term positive impact. He states, “The agreement with Climeworks reflects Partners Group’s focus on sustainability and its commitment to achieving positive stakeholder impact over the long term.” This partnership demonstrates Partners Group’s proactive leadership in the transition to a net zero economy, both through internal initiatives and strategic investments. Partners Group aims to be a sustainability leader in private markets by driving meaningful change within its portfolio and contributing to a global shift towards decarbonization.
