Brothers Barbecue, located in Reno’s MidTown District, will launch the new Howlin’ Bold and Spicy barbecue sauce on Friday, August 4th. This exciting collaboration between Brothers Barbecue and the University of Nevada Athletics will see the sauce available for purchase at the restaurant, Silver and Blue Outfitters this fall, and the 2023 Best in the West Rib Cookoff (August 30th – September 4th), with more retailers to follow.
This partnership reflects the University of Nevada’s ongoing commitment to collaborating with local and alumni-owned businesses. According to Michael Harris, Associate Athletic Director of Revenue Generation and Fan Engagement, “We are excited to collaborate on Howlin’ Bold and Spicy with Brothers Barbecue…Joe and Meagan, the owners of Brothers Barbecue and creators of the sauce, have a passion for the university and the Reno community making this relationship a natural fit for everyone involved.”
Brothers Barbecue, established in 2006, is known for its authentic Texas-style BBQ using generations-old family recipes. Owners Joe and Meagan Orduna emphasize the shared work ethic between their restaurant and Nevada’s student athletes: “Work hard, grind it out, and never give up! That’s what we do at Brothers Barbecue and that’s what the student athletes at the University of Nevada do every season.”
They describe Howlin’ Bold and Spicy as “the perfect balance between bold, sweet and smoky flavors, with a little heat to be a game-changer at every Wolf Pack tailgate party, backyard cookout, and family gathering.” The Ordunas expressed pride in partnering with Nevada Athletics to “continually feed the student athletes and our community.”
Nevada Athletics, dating back to 1896 with the formation of the university’s first football team, comprises 17 varsity programs and has been a member of the Mountain West Conference since 2012. Nicknamed the “Wolf Pack” in 1928-29, Nevada teams have achieved numerous accolades, including four national titles, 18 individual NCAA titles, and 122 conference titles.
The sauce launch is facilitated by CLC, the nation’s leading collegiate trademark licensing company. CLC connects universities with consumers through innovative marketing and merchandise strategies. Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, and founded in 1981, CLC is part of Learfield IMG College, a prominent media and technology services company in intercollegiate athletics. This new sauce represents a spicy collaboration benefiting both the university and a beloved local Partners Bbq.
