H/2 Capital Partners Co-Founder Launches D2 Asset Management

D2 Asset Management, a new investment firm specializing in credit investing, has been launched with over $1 billion in assets under management. The firm was co-founded by industry veterans Luke Doramus and Ben Doramus, formerly of TowerBrook Capital Partners and H/2 Capital Partners, respectively. D2 will focus on asset-based finance, along with public and private credit investments across diverse assets, markets, and operating companies.

Ben Doramus’s experience at H/2 Capital Partners, a prominent hedge fund, provides a strong foundation for D2’s credit investment strategies. His prior role as Partner and Managing Director at H/2 equipped him with valuable insights into credit markets and investment management. Combined with Luke Doramus’s background at TowerBrook Capital Partners and previous experience at LibreMax Capital and Deutsche Bank, the leadership team brings a wealth of expertise to D2. Luke also held a position as a trader on the structured products trading desk at Deutsche Bank. Ben’s experience at Deutsche Bank included leading CRE principal trading for North America.

The Doramus brothers have partnered with Koch Real Estate Investments, a significant player in the real estate sector, to further strengthen D2’s capabilities. This collaboration provides D2 with access to Koch’s extensive network and resources, enhancing their investment opportunities. The partnership with Koch underscores D2’s commitment to real assets, specialty finance, and structured credit.

The launch of D2 Asset Management comes amidst a surge in popularity for private credit investments. This trend has led to the establishment of several new firms in the space this year, including Caro Investor Management, backed by TPG, focusing on real estate credit, and a management buyout from Tortoise Capital, specializing in lower middle-market loans. D2 aims to capitalize on this growing demand by leveraging its founders’ expertise and strategic partnerships to generate compelling returns for its investors. The firm’s focus on diverse asset classes and markets positions it to navigate the evolving credit landscape and identify attractive investment opportunities.

D2 Asset Management is headquartered in Texas and is actively seeking to expand its team with experienced professionals in the coming months. The firm’s ambitious growth plans reflect its confidence in the market opportunity and its commitment to building a leading credit investment platform. The founders expressed their excitement about launching D2 and leveraging their combined skills and the partnership with Koch Real Estate Investments.
