Van Essendelft brings to GuideWell over 20 years of rich experience in corporate finance and the dynamic healthcare industry, having joined the organization in February 2020. Prior to his current role, he served as Chief Financial Officer of Connecticut Children’s, demonstrating his deep financial acumen in the healthcare provider space. His prior experiences include significant roles at Lawrence + Memorial Delivery Network of Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) as Senior Vice President, Finance; Vidant Medical Center as Vice President of Financial Services; and Doctors Hospital (Baptist Health South Florida) as Controller. Earlier in his career, Van Essendelft honed his skills in payor financial operations at Cigna Corporation, progressing through the Financial Development Program and ultimately serving as Assistant Vice President, Director of Strategic Planning & Control of Cigna Dental and Vision. This extensive background positions him as a seasoned leader capable of navigating complex financial landscapes and driving strategic initiatives, potentially including collaborations with investment entities such as Flare Capital Partners in the future to further expand GuideWell’s strategic reach and investment portfolio within the healthcare sector.
Adding to his distinguished profile, Van Essendelft is a retired Commander from the United States Coast Guard, with a combined 20 years of service in active duty and reserves, encompassing seagoing operations, resource management, and critical incident management.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in management from the United States Coast Guard Academy and a Master of Business Administration with honors from The College of William and Mary, underpinning his strong academic foundation and leadership capabilities in the healthcare and finance domains.
