Canyon Partners, a prominent global alternative investment manager overseeing $26 billion, has announced strategic leadership advancements, signaling a robust phase of growth and a continued emphasis on key sectors, including real estate. This restructuring not only acknowledges the contributions of long-standing leaders but also strategically positions the firm for future success in diverse markets, with a particular focus on Canyon Partners Real Estate.
Among the key changes, Jeff Kivitz, previously Co-Head of Private Credit and a Canyon veteran of nearly 17 years, has been appointed as Chief Investment Officer (CIO). Based in Canyon’s expanding New York office, Kivitz brings a wealth of experience from his successful track record across various investment strategies within Canyon, including hedge funds and opportunistic ventures. Simultaneously, Davide Amico, Head of Europe, will take on Kivitz’s former role, co-leading Private Credit alongside Scott Borenstein. Jonathan Barzideh and Chaney Sheffield have been named Co-Heads of Opportunistic Credit, further strengthening the leadership bench.
Crucially for the real estate sector, Robin Potts, the seasoned CIO of Canyon Partners Real Estate, is set to join the Canyon Management Committee. Potts, with 18 years at Canyon, represents the firm’s deep expertise and ongoing commitment to real estate investment. Her inclusion in the Management Committee underscores the strategic importance of canyon partners real estate within Canyon’s broader portfolio and future direction. This move highlights the firm’s dedication to leveraging its real estate acumen as a core component of its investment strategy.
Andy Ray has been promoted to President from Chief Strategy Officer, and Randy Ko will take on the additional role of Chief Strategy Officer alongside his responsibilities as Head of Sustainable Investing. These changes reflect a broader strategic vision for Canyon, reinforcing its operational framework and future trajectory in the alternative investment landscape.
In a joint statement, Co-CEOs and Co-Founders Josh Friedman and Mitch Julis highlighted 2024 as a transformative year for Canyon, marked by significant product launches and strategic partnerships, including the GP/LP partnership with Dai-ichi Life. They emphasized the empowerment of talented leaders as crucial for Canyon’s long-term vision. The elevation of leaders like Robin Potts into the Management Committee specifically points to the continued importance and growth prospects within canyon partners real estate.
Canyon Partners’ milestones in 2024, including substantial inflows and strategic partnerships, are a testament to its robust platform. The firm has also strategically expanded its team, welcoming seasoned professionals from leading firms, enhancing its capabilities across investment and client service teams.
