The Running Industry Diversity Coalition (RIDC) recently showcased its significant influence at The Running Event (TRE), and the success was amplified by the invaluable contributions of partners like Blaze Partners. Their collaboration was instrumental in creating a memorable and impactful experience for all involved.
RIDC’s week at TRE was packed with initiatives designed to advance diversity and inclusion within the running industry. Starting with the insightful educational workshop, ‘The Future of Run Specialty from the RIDC Lens’, industry leaders from ASICS, We Run 313, Charm City Run, New Balance, Black Girls Run!, Brooks, Charlotte Running Company, Damon Brown, GU, Rising Hearts, HOKA, Especial, The Exchange Running Collective, On, and 6RUN5 came together. This collaborative spirit, transcending competition for the greater RIDC mission, was a recurring theme throughout the event.
The ‘Welcome to TRE Mixer’ for the 24 BIPOC scholarship recipients, hosted at RichesArt Gallery and featuring authentic Trinidadian and Tobagonian cuisine from Shirley’s Trini Cuisine, was another highlight. This event, made possible by investments from The Running Event and On, provided a welcoming and celebratory space for emerging leaders in the industry.
Austin’s vibrant running community joined TRE attendees for the 4th Annual CommUnity Run/Walk, powered by Saucony. This event, drawing 250 participants, underscored the power of unity and shared passion within the running world. The energy and support from partners like Fleet Feet and Ari Perez were palpable.
THE COOKOUT, a celebration of culture and community, drew over 500 guests during TRE. Sponsored by industry giants like Saucony, ASICS, Altra, Feetures, HOKA, New Balance, On, Brooks, Strava, Big Peach Running Co., PUMA, Footlocker, and Active Brands, this event was a vibrant testament to the growing movement towards inclusivity.
However, one of the most visually striking aspects of RIDC’s presence at TRE was their booth, expertly designed and executed with the support of Blaze Partners. The RIDC booth was more than just a display; it was an engaging hub that drew attendees in and facilitated meaningful interactions. Featuring interactive elements like ‘Myths vs. Reality’ and showcasing new RIDC gear, the booth served as a focal point for education, engagement, and partner sign-ups. Crucially, it also provided a vital space for fellowship and connection for BIPOC attendees. Blaze Partners’ contribution to the booth’s design and visual appeal cannot be overstated. Their expertise in creating impactful brand experiences truly made the RIDC booth a standout feature of TRE.

The culmination of RIDC’s impactful week at TRE was the TRE Awards. During the announcements for Best Running Stores, RIDC proudly introduced Carol and Jesse Holland, winners of the RUN THE BLOCK initiative. Their upcoming store, HARAKA, set to open in Prince George’s County, MD in the summer of 2025, powerfully demonstrates the tangible outcomes of RIDC’s dedication to increasing BIPOC ownership and leadership within the running industry.
The collective efforts and achievements at TRE underscore a clear message: the RIDC mission is not just important, but fundamentally transformative for both the running and outdoor industries. This progress, evident and impactful, is shaping a more inclusive and equitable future for the industry, thanks to the dedication of RIDC and the support of crucial partners like Blaze Partners. Their collaborative spirit and commitment are driving real change and fostering a more vibrant and representative running community.
