Securing a finance internship can be challenging. After numerous rejections, Weijie Shi ’14 landed a coveted opportunity with Wp Global Partners, thanks to the support of alumnus Mr. Xu ’10. This article details Shi’s experience working at the WP Global Partners New York office.

Working at WP Global Partners in New York

WP Global Partners, a private equity fund, operates with a dual focus: sourcing new investment opportunities and managing existing client portfolios. Shi’s internship encompassed both aspects, providing a comprehensive learning experience.

Responsibilities as a WP Global Partners Intern

Shi’s daily tasks involved attending pitches from fund managers, meticulously documenting meeting notes, and conducting thorough industry research where potential investments were identified. He played a crucial role in evaluating target investments and compiling comprehensive deal reviews that analyzed company performance, market conditions, and growth potential.

Beyond evaluating new ventures, Shi maintained and updated financial metrics for current investments within WP Global Partners’ portfolio. His responsibilities also included database management and contributing to pitch books and presentations through data analysis and chart creation.

Life Beyond the Internship

New York City offered Shi a vibrant backdrop for his internship experience. He enjoyed exploring the city’s diverse culinary scene, attending Broadway shows and concerts, and connecting with friends and fellow Wabash alumni.

Gratitude and Encouragement

Shi credits the internship as a pivotal experience in his Wabash journey. He expresses deep gratitude to Mr. Stanley Xu for the opportunity, Career Services, Mr. Scott Crawford, and the Small Business Internship Fund for their support. Shi highly recommends the WP Global Partners internship to any Wabash student pursuing a career in finance.
