Greenbelt Capital Partners Launches as Independent Firm Following Trilantic Capital Partners Spin-Out

A significant shift in the private equity landscape has been announced with the spin-out of Trilantic North America’s energy team, resulting in the formation of a new, independent entity named Greenbelt Capital Partners. This strategic move, revealed today, positions Greenbelt Capital Partners to operate as a standalone firm commencing January 1, 2022, while maintaining close ties with Trilantic Capital Partners.

Headquartered in Austin, Texas, and with a presence in New York, Greenbelt Capital Partners adopts its name from Austin’s beloved outdoor recreational parkland, symbolizing its commitment to forward-thinking and sustainable investment strategies. The firm will be spearheaded by Chris Manning, currently a Managing Partner at Trilantic North America, who will assume the role of CEO at Greenbelt. He will be supported by the existing Trilantic North America energy team, including key figures like Glenn Jacobson and Andy Hopping, ensuring a seamless transition and continuity of expertise. Trilantic North America will continue to provide operational support to Greenbelt, fostering a collaborative relationship between the two entities.

Chris Manning, CEO of Greenbelt Capital Partners, highlighted the evolution of their investment focus, stating, “Our senior team members have a long history of collaboration, dating back to the early 2000s. We have consistently adapted our focus within the dynamic energy sector.” He further elaborated on the expanded investment scope, “The advancements in technology and the increasing affordability of renewable power have broadened our horizons beyond traditional energy. We now see compelling opportunities in sectors like industrial and residential solar, battery storage solutions, electric vehicle infrastructure, and the software platforms that empower energy customers. We are eager to explore these avenues and collaborate with our existing portfolio companies to drive innovation and growth.”

Glenn Jacobson, Managing Partner, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the foundational principles guiding Greenbelt Capital Partners. “We are excited to build upon the strong foundation established 20 years ago at Lehman Merchant Banking. We believe our robust value creation processes will continue to guide us in identifying and capitalizing on attractive, risk-adjusted investment opportunities.”

Charlie Ayres, Chairman and Managing Partner of Trilantic North America, expressed his support for this strategic evolution. “Chris and the team have successfully built a leading energy investment franchise under the Trilantic North America umbrella, marked by notable transactions across the oil and gas industry, midstream infrastructure, and, increasingly, the energy transition sector,” Ayres commented. “We are proud to endorse this exciting next chapter for the energy team and look forward to a continued partnership.”
