Exciting news for SAS EuroBonus members! As we continuously strive to enhance your travel experience, EuroBonus is embarking on a new journey by joining forces with SkyTeam, a leading global airline alliance. This transition opens up a world of fresh and exciting travel opportunities, connecting you to an expansive network of destinations and partners from September 1, 2024. Rest assured, your EuroBonus membership remains valuable, and the program’s core principles stay consistent. Your current membership level and the points you’ve diligently earned will remain unaffected by this exciting shift.
This move to SkyTeam partners means that as a valued EuroBonus member, you will continue to enjoy a wealth of benefits and accrue points based on your membership tier. Until August 31, 2024, your benefits remain consistent when flying with Star Alliance airlines. However, starting September 1, 2024, prepare to experience similar, if not enhanced, privileges with a vast majority of SkyTeam airlines.
Below, we delve into the essential details of how this transition will impact your EuroBonus membership, ensuring a seamless shift to a new alliance brimming with exciting travel possibilities.
Navigating Your EuroBonus Benefits with Partner Airlines
For travels completed up to August 31, 2024:
Continue to enjoy your EuroBonus benefits as usual when flying with Star Alliance airlines. Your existing Star Alliance Silver or Gold status will ensure you receive the benefits you are accustomed to.
For travels commencing from September 1, 2024:
Get ready to experience the elevated benefits associated with SkyTeam Elite and Elite Plus status.
- EuroBonus Silver members will transition from Star Alliance Silver to SkyTeam Elite status. This unlocks a range of benefits when flying with SkyTeam partners, including extra baggage allowance and priority check-in services.
- EuroBonus Gold and Diamond members will evolve from Star Alliance Gold to SkyTeam Elite Plus status. As Elite Plus members, you will gain access to premium benefits across the SkyTeam network. Enjoy access to airport lounges, utilize fast track security lanes for expedited airport processes, and benefit from priority boarding.
Important Note: Initially, some SkyTeam partner airlines, specifically Middle East Airlines, Aeromexico, and Aerolineas Argentinas, may not fully support all Elite or Elite Plus benefits for EuroBonus members due to technical integration timelines. We are actively working to resolve this and will keep you informed as these benefits become available across the entire SkyTeam network. For more detailed information on SkyTeam Elite and Elite Plus benefits, please refer to the SkyTeam FAQ.
Earning EuroBonus Points with SkyTeam Partners
For flights taken up to August 31, 2024:
Earning Basic points on Star Alliance airlines remains unchanged. Continue to accrue points as you always have. Remember, you can claim missing points for Star Alliance flights completed by August 31, 2024, until November 30, 2024. After this date, claims for missing points on Star Alliance flights, including Singapore Airlines flights up to August 31, 2024, will no longer be possible. Ensure your EuroBonus number is added to your booking before departure to avoid missing points claims.
For flights departing from September 1, 2024:
The landscape for earning points evolves. You will no longer earn EuroBonus points on Star Alliance airlines, with the exception of Singapore Airlines where you will continue to earn Bonus and Level points after September 1. Instead, you will accumulate Level and Bonus points when flying with the majority of SkyTeam airlines. Detailed information regarding point accrual with SkyTeam partners will be available on the SAS EuroBonus partners page. For flights with SkyTeam airlines and Singapore Airlines departing from September 1, 2024, missing points can be claimed between 8 days and 6 months after your flight.
Utilizing EuroBonus Points with Partner Airlines: Transitioning to SkyTeam
Star Alliance Airlines:
- Booking Award Trips: You can book Star Alliance Bonus trips using your EuroBonus points through the Star Alliance Bonus Trip booking tool until August 31, 2024, even for travel dates after this date. However, no new Star Alliance bookings will be permitted after August 31, 2024. Valid Amex 2-for-1 vouchers can be used for Star Alliance Bonus trip bookings until August 31, 2024.
- Rebooking Existing Trips: Rebooking of Star Alliance Bonus trips is possible until 24 hours before your outbound flight’s departure, subject to availability, until August 31, 2024, even if your new departure date is on or after September 1, 2024. Once your trip has commenced, return trip rebooking is not allowed. From September 1, 2024, rebooking to SAS or specific SkyTeam airline flights (subject to availability) can be done by contacting SAS Customer Service. This involves cancelling your original flight and booking a new SkyTeam flight, without incurring new booking or administration fees. Rebooking is allowed up to 24 hours before outbound departure, but not for return flights once the trip has started. Both outbound and return trips must be rebooked on SAS or SkyTeam flights, and any point price difference will be adjusted. Standard EuroBonus rules apply regarding expired points or vouchers during rebooking.
- Cancellations: Cancellation of Star Alliance Bonus trips remains possible at any time until 24 hours before departure (both before and after September 1, 2024) via SAS Customer Service. Points and valid vouchers will be returned to your EuroBonus account.
SkyTeam Airlines:
- Booking Award Trips: Starting September 1, 2024, you can book award flights on most SkyTeam airlines using your EuroBonus points for travel from September 1, 2024. Amex 2-for-1 vouchers can also be used for SkyTeam award flight bookings. Premium Economy award tickets will be introduced in early 2025.
- Rebooking Award Trips: Rebooking award flights on SkyTeam airlines is permitted up to 24 hours before the outbound flight, subject to availability. Standard EuroBonus rules regarding point and voucher expiration apply during rebooking.
- Cancellations: Award flights on SkyTeam airlines can be cancelled up to 24 hours before departure. Non-expired points and vouchers will be returned to your account.
Addressing Potential Booking Considerations
EuroBonus members might encounter temporary challenges when adding their EuroBonus number online to bookings with certain SkyTeam partners during this transition. If you experience this, we recommend requesting the check-in agent at the airport to manually add your EuroBonus number. This ensures you receive all eligible benefits and automatically earn EuroBonus points. Alternatively, you can easily submit a retro claim for missing points through our website after your flight is completed.
We are dedicated to ensuring a smooth transition to the SkyTeam alliance and are excited about the enhanced travel experiences this partnership will bring to our valued EuroBonus members. Stay tuned for further updates as we progress on this journey, bringing you even more exciting travel opportunities in the future.
