Key Responsibilities of the Retail Pharmacy Manager

This leadership position requires a proactive and strategic pharmacist ready to shape and optimize pharmacy services. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Strategic Collaboration: Working closely with administrative and physician leaders within partner Community Health Centers to design and implement pharmacist-driven clinical and dispensing services that directly address patient needs.
  • Developing Collaborative Practices: Creating and implementing collaborative practice agreements focused on improving medication compliance for high-risk patients, leading to better health outcomes.
  • Ensuring Regulatory Compliance: Implementing best practices and rigorously ensuring the pharmacy department’s full compliance with all 340B rules and regulations, maintaining the integrity of the program.
  • Staffing and Operational Efficiency: Managing pharmacy staffing levels to effectively meet the demands of the pharmacy and ensuring smooth, efficient operations.
  • Maintaining Accurate Records: Overseeing the meticulous maintenance of records for all prescription medications received and dispensed, ensuring accuracy and accountability.
  • Upholding Dispensing Standards: Establishing and enforcing policies that guarantee the accurate dispensing and labeling of prescriptions, prioritizing patient safety.
  • Pharmacy Security and Safety: Maintaining the highest levels of security within the prescription area, preventing unauthorized access, and diligently reporting any instances of theft or diversion of controlled substances as required by federal and state regulations.
  • Professional Consultation Standards: Ensuring that only qualified pharmacists and supervised interns or externs provide professional consultations to patients and physicians, upholding the standard of care.
  • Drug Quality Assurance: Preventing the dispensing of any misbranded, deteriorated, adulterated, improperly stored, outdated, or sample drugs, ensuring only the highest quality medications are provided.

  • Regulatory Adherence: Ensuring the pharmacy and all pharmacy personnel operate in full compliance with all federal and state statutes, rules, and regulations governing pharmacy practice.

Qualifications to Thrive

  • Educational Foundation: A Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy is required, while a PharmD is highly preferred, demonstrating advanced pharmaceutical knowledge.
  • Pharmacy Management Experience: 2 years of pharmacy management experience are necessary, with 3-5 years of related pharmacy experience strongly preferred, indicating a solid understanding of pharmacy operations and leadership.
  • Valid Pharmacist Registration: Pharmacist registration in the state where the position is located is mandatory.
  • Immunization Certification: Immunization Certification is required, or willingness to obtain certification within 90 days of hire, showcasing commitment to patient care expansion.
